The 250th anniversary isn't a birthday party. It's a deadline. We the People are drafting the rights that will define the next 250 years.
People’s Bill of Rights is a national campaign inviting everyday Americans to shape the constitutional rights that govern their lives. Founded in the 250th anniversary of the United States, the campaign invites Americans not to just look at the past, but shape the country’s future through public deliberation of constitutional amendments and other laws that shape our society. Guided by constitutional scholars and experts from both political parties legal and democracy experts — but owned by no party and no campaign — People’s Bill of Rights is designed to invite participation across political, cultural, and generational lines. First we listen to people's ideas. Then we bring those ideas into national deliberations, where Americans help shape a new People's Bill of Rights 250 and a path toward constitutional amendments for the 21st century. After that we take it to the nation for their approval.
From there, constitutional lawyers, historians, policy experts, and civic leaders help translate the strongest areas of public agreement into clear amendment language.
Article V gives us the road to ratification. Amendments can be proposed by two-thirds of Congress or through a convention called by two-thirds of the states. Either way, they must then be ratified by three-fourths of the states — 38 out of 50 — to become part of the Constitution. Our job is to build the public mandate powerful enough to move that process: state by state, district by district, artist by artist, citizen by citizen. We turn public will into legal language, legal language into political pressure, and political pressure into constitutional amendments. That is how "We the People" becomes more than a phrase again.
